ITALIAN TOUR
Wilderide is very excited to have our friend Giuseppe at Ital Cycling Bike Tours arranging this Italian escape from the Australian winter.
The tour is in the Lombardy - Veneto - Trentino region in northern of Italy, and will cover 400km & 3500VM on a mix of gravel and quiet paths & roads over 6 days. Venice and Milan are the closest international airports.
The tour starts in the picturesque town of Desenzano, perched on the edge of Lake Garda. Our first night is spent in Soave, a medieval town east of Verona renowned for its artisanal white wine. The next stop is Bassano del Grappa, the foothills of the Alps and home to Italy’s oldest distillery, signature spritz and boutiques. Then on to Trento and we are in the Alps and enjoying a rest day. On day 5 we head south towards Lake Garda, and the thrilling Ponale climb with stunning views, and on towards Lake Idro . The final night is a return to the departure town of Desenzano.
In 2024 Giuseppe arranged a fantastic personal tour for myself and Julian - first the Dolomites and then the Lake Garda region, which is his home. Highlights included a gravel ride from Garda to Verona for gelato (as you do), a seafood banquet at a friend’s restaurant, and many local-only-knowledge food experiences. There is a real risk this small group tour will turn into an eating and drinking tour of Italy with just enough cycling to burn the accumulated calories!
