Wilderide’s routes traverse remote locations, often with no access to water and services, and with limited (and often no) mobile phone network. It is important that you plan your equipment, supplies and communications to cope with these challenges.

  • How will you contact friends/family/emergency services without access to the mobile phone network?

  • What should you carry to keep you safe and moving when you are hours away from help?

>> Wilderide requires all participants to carry a mobile device with emergency services contact capability. In remote areas this requires satellite network connectivity. More information in the Wilderide Safety Checklist 👇

RECOMMENDED APPS

Emergency+ - a free app developed by Australia’s emergency services and their Government and industry partners. The app uses GPS functionality built into smart phones to help a Triple Zero (000) caller provide critical location details required to mobilise emergency services.

Ride With GPS - use this to navigate Wilderide’s tour routes offline - download before you go

Experience Nannup - works where Google Maps and other apps that need network connection fail. Interactive maps are accessed from the Mountain Bike menu. The locate icon is linked to the device GPS and works without mobile data.

EmergencyWA - information about alerts and warnings for emergencies across Western Australia.

BushfireIO - natural disaster map with near real-time satellite imagery and other immediate data sources

Bike Shops

Bike shops are located in major towns such as Busselton, Bunbury and Margaret River. These may be one or 2 hours drive away from your location. To minimize mechanical downtime:

  • Make sure your bike is in good working condition before setting off

  • Ensure you carry a well-stocked spares bag when riding

  • We recommend a comprehensive tool kit and additional spares to be kept at your base
